CBD, The Endocannabinoid System & Sleep.

Doctors recommend that adults get a good night's sleep every night, which is essential for health. The length of time and how much we should spend in various sleep phases are often slightly different. While we don't fully understand sleep, we do know that while we sleep, our bodies repair tissue, store memories, regulate our metabolism and blood pressure, and much more. Our Endocannabinoid system assists with all of this.

Over 40 million Americans suffer from a sleep disorder, with the most common being the following: (1)

  • Insomnia - the frustrating inability to fall asleep or stay asleep.

  • Sleep apnea – which involves impaired breathing while sleeping.

  • Restless leg syndrome – characterized by tingling, discomfort and even pain in the legs that increases at night and is relieved by movement.

  • Circadian rhythm disorders – when one's internal clock is off and one's sleep patterns are disturbed.

  • Parasomnias – which entails abnormal movements and activities while sleeping, including sleepwalking and nightmares.

  • Excessive daytime sleepiness – when an individual experiences persistent drowsiness during daylight hours from narcolepsy or another medical condition.

"Poor sleep is the number one reported medical complaint in the United States and a serious public health concern. The average adult needs between seven and eight hours of sleep per day.

Yet, 10-30 million Americans regularly don't get enough sleep.

Over 60% of American adults report having problems sleeping several nights per week. Over 40 million Americans suffer from more than 70 different sleep disorders" (2)

What can we do?

Since the endocannabinoid system plays such a significant role in regulating our sleep cycles, it would be safe to say CBD can help with sleep disorders.

According to Project CBD:

"CB1 receptors modulate neurotransmitter release in a manner that dials back excessive neuronal activity, thereby reducing anxietypain, and inflammation. CB1 receptor expression is thus a key factor in modulating sleep homeostasis." (3)

Cannabinoids have been used for centuries to help with sleep, and while we don't have all the answers, we do know that CBD affects sleep for many people who have turned to it to help them fall and stay asleep. Working with our Endocannabinoid system, especially with full-spectrum CBD, your body can better regulate these processes and maintain that homeostasis.

It all comes down to what you use CBD for and what is causing your restlessness at night. We offer an easy-to-use pill for our customers who deal with a sleep disorder and have turned to CBD as a possible solution. With 25 mg of CBD per tablet and 5 mg of Melatonin, you get all you need in one easy-to-take capsule. Using full-spectrum hemp oil, you get all of the benefits of CBD in a very convenient form.
