Holistic Care For Your Pets
Now more than ever we are home with our pets and maybe have started seeing behaviors that we otherwise would have missed, or... your animals also could be picking up on your stress and anxious energy/feelings and could be acting out. They don't know what to do with this energy that is coming from you, the energy that isn't usually there.
There are things we can do to assist and help take care of our fur babies. Now, if you are like me… my fur babies have my heart and are so important to me. I would say my whole heart, but I have children, so that is not a fair statement. However, they come pretty damn close!
I know that I would do whatever I needed to do to take care of my fur babies, and there is a lot that you can do for them! In return, our fur babies actually help us with our overall health and wellness.
Animals pick up on subtle energies that we and the world give off. No words required. They internalize and take on what they are feeling. When they've had too much or even when they feel you've had too much, they come to you, to be a relief for you or get relief from you. These subtle cues are done at a nonverbal level, which we often miss... that is when they will try to self-soothe.
However, self-soothing behavior to us is not necessarily a good thing. This can mean incessantly barking/meowing, digging/scratching, running crazy, chewing / biting, peeing on things in the house, inserting any behavior you are not fond of. The point is, to a dog or a cat, these are normal behaviors that help them move the energies they are feeling. To us, however, they are super annoying and sometimes can be enough to make you want to rip your hair out.
Now here is the good news... Pets are good for us. They literally can heal a broken heart, give you love when you are lonely, provide companionship, wipe your tears away, make you laugh by being cute and silly, bring a smile to your face, bring you joy and happiness, they can get you to move your body, which will help you shift your mindset and shift your perspective. And...so much more!
Your fur babies only have 2 intentions in life, which is to be loved and praised by their people and to bring love and happiness to their people. They just want to make us happy, and they want to know we are happy with them. That is it! No hidden agenda! It is that simple and that special!
So, I would like to give you some tools that will help you to take care of them and strengthen the bond between you and your pets.
Get to know your pet’s body language: animals have subtle cues that will let you know what is going on with them. If you are paying attention you will notice things like…. Their ears are back and down, they are not wagging their tail, they are lethargic, they aren't eating, they are barking more than normal, they seem extra needy, etc… These behaviors are signs that they aren't happy. Extra love and attention will go a long way towards making them feel better. Sit and connect with them on a mindful level. They just need some attention and love from their people.
Exercise: One of the most important things you can do for your pet. They need to move their bodies just like we do. Exercise helps move stagnant energy and relieves anxiety. Get out and walk your dog daily or play with your cat to get them active. A tired pet is a happy pet. They need the stimulation to release the built-up energy and So. Do. We. So, get up and play with your fur babies!
Nutrition: What we feed our pets is a direct reflection of their overall health. Food that is chock-full of fillers can have a negative effect on the overall health of your pet. Just like us, when their digestive system isn't getting the nutrients that it needs their immune systems can't fight off infections from bugs bites to allergies, viruses, or even cancer. It is so important to make sure you feed your pet the best food possible, and to make sure it has the extra vitamins and minerals that they need.
Supplement support: There are a few extra supplements you can give your pets to help maintain optimal health.
BeLeaf Life's Oil CBD for pets is a great way to help them with anxiety, joint pain, and inflammation. You can just add it to their food. You will notice a difference in just a few short weeks.
Probiotics for pets will boost their immune system, aid in digestion, and keep their eliminations regular. It also can help with urinary tract infections, allergies, and allergic reactions. Look for a good quality product, and make sure you do your research. You want to know that you are getting what you paid for.
5. Sound Therapy: Animals, in general, are very sensitive to sound, so if you happen to notice that they are anxious or just need to relax, turn on some soft white noise in the room with them. You will notice a behavior shift rather quickly. To boost your sound therapy, sit down next to them for 5 to 10 minutes, and give them your full attention and your love. You will notice an immediate shift for you and your pet.
6. Aromatherapy: There is some conflicting information about aromatherapy and pets. As someone who is certified in Aromatherapy, there are a few things you will need to know first.
Quality oils are a must! Do not buy essential oils from the drug store. EVER! Not even for yourself. Buy oils from a company that does 3rd party testing and is willing to give out the results of the tests they do. Transparency from a company is key. If they won't share the results from the test they do on their products, then you don't want their product.
Not all oils are suitable for pet care. So do NOT just use anything on your pet. Some oils are too strong or could even be toxic.
Keep it simple. Lavender essential oil is a good choice, as it can calm and relax your pet. Applying it to your hands and petting them or giving them a light body massage can ease aches and pains, as well as relax them. You can also diffuse it in the room with them. If they don't like it they will move away from it.
So, as you can see there are some things that you can do to help you connect with your pet and to help them be happy, healthy. Slow down, Be Mindful, and spend some time with your fur babies for your health and theirs.
